TEN BEST OVER THE COUNTER MEDICINE GOUT REMEDIES

1. Allopurinol

Allopurinol is a medicine used to lower levels of uric acid in your blood. If you produce too much uric acid or your kidneys do not filter enough out, it can build up and cause tiny, sharp crystals. These crystals can form around your joints, which cause the swollen and painful symptoms of gout. Crystals can also collect inside the kidneys and damage them.

It may take several months before you feel the full benefit of allopurinol.

During the first few months of treatment, as allopurinol starts to work, you may get more gout attacks.

However, your doctor will prescribe an NSAID such as ibuprofen, or colchicine to help with this.

Probably the best gout drug out there

2. ibuprofen

Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and a common treatment for relieving fever, pain, and inflammation. As with any medication, ibuprofen can cause side effects. The most common ibuprofen side effects are gastrointestinal.

OUR RATING : It works great for most people.

3. STRESS

Well relieving stress in 2024 is far easier to say than to achieve. If you feel stress is a big factor physical exercise (martial arts for me ) and meditation are key. learning to meditate is not as hard as it seems if you treat it like an exercise. You can only do a minute on day 1. At the end of the week you archive 2 minutes and so on. Its a must these days to have 10 mins of totally our own mind time each day. As to its true impact on gout i’m open minded on that one

4. DIET

Some meats contain high amounts of purines. Avoiding these might help to reduce a person’s gout symptoms.

Meats and fish that are high in purines include

Bacon, turkey, veal, venison, liver, anchovies, sardines, mussels, herring, cod, haddock, trout, and scallops.

OUR RATING :

For some reason I got little relief although it works well for lots of people

6. alcohol

Remove it from your diet, especially Red wine, strong real Ales and most spirits. For some reason Stella and some other natural beers and lagers don’t seem to trigger gout .I’m afraid its a case of trial and error if you want to carry on drinking.

7. CHERRY TABLETS

For along time taking cherry supplement tablets has been said to keep gout at bay. It starts getting expensive when you are told you also need to take the supplements listed below.

Having had gout for about 30 years now, I have found keeping diet and alcohol in moderation and playing with my blood PH the way forward.

8. Magnesium

Magnesium as a supplement may help reduce gout attacks because it helps to circulate your blood better. It does this by helping to get your heart to beat regularly. Because it lowers blood pressure, as the University of Maryland Medical Center notes, it reduces the strain on your heart. The more blood flows smoothly in your body, the less likely uric acid will crystallize in your joints because the fluid helps keep the acid moving until it can be expelled.

9. turmeric

Some people treat gout by applying turmeric on their joints. The efficacy of this method hasn’t been scientifically proven, but people claim it provides relief. Usually, it involves a cream or ointment with turmeric that’s applied topically. You can find such products at health food stores. Another option is to make a turmeric paste. Mix 1 to 2 tablespoons yogurt, raw honey, or coconut oil with 1 teaspoon turmeric power. Apply the paste on the affected joints and wash off after 10 to 15 minutes.

10. Ginger

A study published in “Annals of Biological Research” in 2011 found that ginger acted as an anti-inflammatory and reduced the symptoms of gout in mice about as well as a gout medication called indomethacin. Ginger may also have similar effects in people, as an article published in the “Pakistan Journal of Nutrition” notes that a clinical study using a mix of herbs including ginger had anti-inflammatory effects when given to people who have gout.
